Bali Day 6

Today we checked out Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park!

We had previously driven by it a couple of times, always with an abrupt “what’s that??!” when we spotted the 400’ statue in the distance.

It was a very cool deep dive into the Garuda legend of Hindu mythology.

We were greeted by Garuda’s dad, Kashyapa Prajapati, and his two wives, Vinata and Kadru. The drama between these three deities set the legend’s story in motion.
We watched traditional Balinese dance.
We saw two dances, a Rejang (offering) dance featuring ceremonially dressed girls and a Rangda (witch) dancer with long nails.
Ascending to the realm of the gods.
Fin n’ Vish.
Hello Garuda!
This bird’s lookin garuda!
Garuda and his brother Aruna both developed from an egg. There are giant eggs all over the park.
The park also featured these steep-walled canyons.
Climbing the hill, getting closer to the big statue.
This Garuda-Vishnu statue is the tallest statue of a Hindu god in the world!
It’s an awe inspiring work of architecture. The “pedestal” of the statue houses an exhibition hall and museum.
Heading home sweaty and tired but satisfied.
Fun times!
