Back in Kyoto after our epic day at USJ, we were excited to explore again.
We began the day with another breakfast at Veg Out.Same old river beneath the cloudy Kyoto skies. We veg’d out, as expected!Next stop, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. We walked the paths of this enchanting forest. Is he home? If not we can come back later. As on our previous Kyoto walking day, the neighbourhood around our main destination was an adventure unto itself.Next we headed for Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion.Kinkakuji is one of the most photographed locations in Kyoto. It was breathtaking! We’d never seen anything like it.The pictures speak for themselves!Turns out Buddhists have terrible aim.We hit the streets again to head over to Fushimi Inari. At the entrance we found this curious water shrine.Let’s gate it!Fushimi Inari’s earliest structures were built in 711. Inari is the Japanse spirit of foxes, fertility, rice, tea and sake, agriculture and industry, general prosperity and worldly success.More than 10,000 torii gates have been donated by Japanese businesses, and they form long tunnels along the path up Mt. InariThe mountain path is long, it took an hour to get to the top. That’s a lot of gates! At the top we were among the clouds, looking down at Kyoto through the mist. Our Kyoto adventure came to a close, we boarded another train.Tokyo, let’s go!
