Sydney Days 3 & 4

We woke up ready for more fun in sunny Sydney!

Fin is ready!
To Bondi Beach we go!
A train and bus ride later, we are there!
White sand, blue water, and tons of Aussies on vacation.
The beach was packed.
A crew was shooting footage for Bondi Rescue a popular Australian reality TV show.
Super stoked!
Time to play in the waves.
We had a blast bodysurfing and playing in the waves with hundreds of other beachgoers.
It was an epic day, definitely one of our top Sydney activities.
We returned to our hotel for fireworks in Darling Harbour.
Next day we walked downtown to Sydney Tower, for a 360 degree view of the city.
It was a bit dizzying being up so high.
Looking down on Hyde Park from above.
Next we walked over to Hyde Park and St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park, designed in classical style, featuring statues of Apollo, Diana, Pan and Theseus.
Apollo stands in the center of the fountain.

According to the sculptor, François-Léon Sicard:

Apollo represents the Arts (Beauty and Light). Apollo holds out his right arm as a sign of protection, and spreads his benefits over all Nature, whilst he holds the Lyre in his left hand. Apollo is the warmth which vivifies, giving life to all Nature. At the touch of his rays, men awake, trees and fields become green, the animals go out into the fields, and men go to work at dawn.

Shadows at high noon. It was hot in the park so we were keen to enter the cool cathedral.
St. Mary’s Cathedral was started in 1820. The first church was lost in a fire in 1869, the present church was constructed in 1882.
Mass was taking place when we entered. When it was finished, we explored the interior of the building.
The stained glass windows were incredible.
As was the stonework.
Overall, an awe-inspiring visit!
Next day we headed to Sydney Airport for our next flight.
At the currency exchange I bought 3 million Indonesian Rupiah (about $300). I guess we are now officially millionaires?!
Next stop, Bali!
