Uluwatu sunsets, pools and beaches

During our last two weeks in Uluwatu we hit up some local beach clubs at sunset. We like the relaxed vibe, and poolside food and drinks are just fun!

First we went to Uluwatu Surf Villas

We loved the pool here!
It started raining while we were in the pool.

Next we went to Balangan Beach. The restaurant we hoped to eat at was full, so we found a beach club nearby.

The beach and beach club were not what we expected. Trash, unfinished construction, and abandoned buildings. However we agreed it was the nicest sunset of our Uluwatu trip.

It goes to show, you never know what is just out of the frame of those most Instagram-friendly photos.

We were a bit bummed when we realize we wouldn’t see the sunset directly, but the effect of that was a spectacular fire-colored cloud pattern.

We booked a surf lessons at Padang Padang Surf Camp. The lessons included food and fun at the surf camp. We got there early for breakfast, surfed for two hours at our favorite beach, and then went back for lunch and a swim. It was an epic day!

The kids are amazing surfers, and stood up easily. For Keith it felt like getting back on a bicycle, having not surfed in almost 25 years. The waves were crowded with beginners and surf instructors, but it was a lighthearted (if chaotic) atmosphere.

Unfortunately because we were all in the water, we didn’t take any photos, but it was a memorable experience.

Here are some post-surf moments!

Dreamland Beach was our final Uluwatu destination. It lived up to it’s name! It was definitely the prettiest beach with the most expansive views, of any beach in Uluwatu. It was a great last evening in south Bali.

We went for dinner to Jumeirah Bali, a five star resort with a restaurant promising vegan food.

Everything about the resort was beautiful.

The sun went down on our last night in Uluwatu. We’ll miss the warm Indian ocean, the beaches, our quiet villa with the cats, and the great food!

The next morning, we got up at 6am and left for Ubud.
