Yogyakarta
We took a weekend side-trip to the neighboring island of Java, and visited Yogyakarta.
Yogyakarta, often referred to as Jogja, is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, and street art, including graffiti, is a part of that. The city has a rich history of artistic expression, and you may find various forms of street art throughout its streets, alleys, and public spaces.
We stayed in Prawirotaman which is a trendy neighbourhood in Jogja. We were blown away by the beautiful street art everywhere.

We took a short car ride to Malioboro Road in downtown Jogja. This is a destination for Indonesian tourists from all over Java and the other Indonesian islands. Dozens of tour buses were unloading tourists to join in eating street food, buying batik, and generally just hanging out. It was cool to see a vibrant tourist scene where the tourists were Indonesians themselves rather than foreigners.

We saw a nearby vegan restaurant on the map, but it turned out we had to wind through a maze of stores, to the 3rd floor food court of a half-abandoned mall.
We were hungry and this tiny vegan food court booth was just what we needed. We are always surprised by the amazing food here.
It was the perfect end to a great first day in Jogja.
